Variations of Space
(2022)

If we assume that ‘space’ is the opposite of ‘place’, where ‘place’ is generally familiar – where we live, rest and thereby give identity –  ‘space’ pushes anonymity and is created with the aim to maintain transit of a generic multitude. Here you need the physical actualities – such as signs or form within architecture – to define the function and efficiency of a certain space.

By mimicking the commercialized appearances of the city center, the project Variations of Space seeks to add a humoristic yet existential perspective to the places and spaces we inhabit. It’s a wordplay, where the text can be seen as a statement, suggesting reevaluation of the everyday distinctions we assign to our surroundings.

Variations of Space is a two-part exhibition, in which the two works are to be interpreted within their respective domains, presented at Kl.9, Östermalmstorg metro station and Norra Tornen, Torsplan.
